Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is located on the University of Louisville campus in Louisville, Kentucky. The stadium was built in 1998 and is the home of the University of Louisville Cardinals football team who play in Conference USA. Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium can hold a capacity crowd of 45,000 people and uses a natural grass playing surface. At the time, it was also the first on-campus stadium built in at a Division I University in the last 13 years. Papa John's and founder/CEO John Schnatter donated $5 million to the project and additional corporate donations totaled nearly $23 million. Large contributions were received from Anheuser Busch, Bank One, and UPS, and other significant contributions came from McDonald's, Pepsi Cola, Kentucky Kingdom and the City of Louisville and Jefferson County. The total cost of the construction project totaled nearly $56 million. Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium also plays host to soccer games, concerts, and other events as well.
