Jordan-Hare Stadium, located on the Auburn University campus at 2047 Eaves Memorial Coliseum, Auburn, AL 36849, was built in 1939 and is the home of the South Eastern Conference’s Auburn University Tigers football team. Jordan-Hare Stadium can hold more than 85,000 people and uses a natural grass playing surface. The 85,214 capacity ranks seventh in the nation as far as attendance among college stadiums. Much like the city of Lincoln for Nebraska football games, Auburn games bring people together from all over the state and rank Auburn as the fifth largest “city” in the state of Alabama on Saturdays that Auburn plays at home. The first game, played against Florida in 1939, was played in “Auburn Stadium” and had a capacity of 7,500 fans. The name of the stadium was officially changed to the present-day name in 1973 and it was the first stadium to be renamed to honor an active coach (after Ralph “Shug” Jordan).
