Michigan Stadium is located on the University of Michigan campus at 530 South State Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48109. The stadium opened in 1927 and can hold more than 102,000 people although many games feature crowds in excess on 106,000. If the university ever needed it, the stadium’s capacity could be expanded to a number as large as 200,000. The stadium was originally completed in 1927 for $950,000 and had a capacity then of 72,000 people, a number that would still rank very high by today’s standards. The last game the Wolverines had that wasn’t a crowd of more than 100,000 was in 1975 when Michigan dismantled Indiana 55-7. Some stadiums boast that their stadium is one of the larger “cities” in their state when a team plays but when Michigan plays in Ann Arbor, the “Big House” ranks in the top 200 cities in the entire nation.
