Memorial Stadium, home of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, was built in 1923 and has been the home of the team ever since. Memorial Stadium is located on the University campus in Lincoln and is owned by the school. The bleachers can hold almost 73,000 people and on game days, Memorial Stadium becomes the state’s third largest “city”. Fans that can’t get into Memorial Stadium crowd around televisions and radios in order to listen to the games with friends and family. The playing surface was changed to field turf recently and all of the players seemingly approve of it. On November 3, 1962, the Cornhusker fans filled Memorial Stadium for a sellout crowd and every game since then has resulted the same way. The streak recently eclipsed 200 consecutive games, and with renewed interest in the team, it doesn’t show any signs of stopping suddenly. In July 1998, the school added luxury boxes to Memorial Coliseum. The ten closest to the 50 yard line sold for $2 million each but the most loyal fans realize that the view of the “Big Red” fans and the game itself are more than worth it.
