Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium at Owen Field is located on the campus of the University of Oklahoma in Norman and was built in 1923. Owen Field can hold 81,000 people and has a natural grass playing surface. Owen Field is named after Bennie Owen, OU’s first winning coach. Previously named Mamorial Stadium, Owen Field has a top 20 capacity among the nation’s college football stadiums. Before the 1970 season, the grass was ripped out and replaced by turf but prescription turf replaced it in 1994. The original capacity of the stadium was around 16,000 and renovations over the years have brought the total to it’s new total of more than 81,000 people.
