Darrell K. Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium, located at 1701 Red River, Austin, TX 78768, sits on the campus of the University of Texas and was built in 1924. The stadium can hold 81,816 people and has had a grass playing surface since 1996. The first night game at the stadium was played in 1955 and 47,000 people showed up that night. Artificial turf was put in as the playing surface in 1967 and was used off and on until 1996. When the grass was put back in, school officials also had a Sony Jumbotron in-stadium video system installed and retrofitted at the north end zone scoreboard. Continued renovations and construction have brought the overall attendance from less than 40,000 to its present-day number of almost 82,000 people.
